Selection Process

The written examination is an objective-type test consisting of multiple-choice questions set in the English language only. Candidates must achieve merit in the written test to proceed to the physical tests. Negative marking applies: 1/4 mark (0.25) is deducted for each wrong answer.

NCC Bonus Marks:

  • NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders: 5% of maximum marks
  • NCC ‘B’ Certificate holders: 3% of maximum marks
  • NCC ‘A’ Certificate holders: 2% of maximum marks

Stage 2 – Shortlisting for Physical Standard Test (PST):

Based on the written examination merit, candidates are shortlisted for PST. The number of shortlisted candidates is six times the total vacancies in each category. This ensures a larger pool of candidates undergoes physical tests.

Stage 3 – Physical Standard Test (PST):

This is a qualifying stage where candidates must meet prescribed height and chest measurements (as detailed in PST section above). PST is not considered for merit calculation.

Stage 4 – Physical Endurance Test (PET):

Candidates who clear PST must take the PET (running, push-ups/shot put). This is also a qualifying stage and not counted for merit. Candidates must pass both PST and PET to proceed further.

Stage 5 – Document Verification (DV):

Candidates who pass physical tests are called for document verification. Original documents must be produced:

  • Domicile Certificate
  • Matriculation Certificate
  • Age Proof (Birth Certificate/School Certificate)
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS if applicable)
  • Bonafide Certificate (if degree from outside J&K)
  • Ex-Servicemen Certificate (if applicable)
  • NCC Certificate (if applicable, for bonus marks)

Failure to produce original documents will lead to cancellation of candidature.

Stage 6 – Medical Examination:

Final shortlisted candidates undergo medical examination to confirm physical and medical fitness.

Final Selection:

Merit list is prepared based on written examination marks only. Category-wise merit lists are prepared for each division (Jammu and Kashmir). Candidates are selected in order of merit to fill available vacancies.
